Catalog Browse & Purchase-Intent Study

A three-to-four-week reading of how shoppers move through your commerce-app catalog — which categories hold attention, where intent gathers, and where the grid lets people go.

Who it is for
Merchandising leads, catalog managers, and commerce-app owners in Malaysia who already have a live catalog and want a written account of browse behaviour and purchase intent — not a redesign pitch.
What you leave with
A bound findings pack covering sampled categories, observed browse sequences, intent concentrations (variant picking, wishlist, add-to-cart, return-to-grid), and a working session in which your merchandisers can argue with the reading.
Scope
We sample a agreed set of categories and listing surfaces inside the live commerce app. Typical scope is four to eight categories, including one seasonal or campaign face-out. We do not crawl the entire SKU file unless you commission an extension.
Who does the work
Read by Catalog Vertex Hub analysts in Klang, Selangor. Amira Hassan leads the study; Tan Wei Ming records browse sequences; Priya Nair chairs the findings session.
Time
Three to four weeks from briefing to findings session, assuming the live catalog is available and campaign freezes can be agreed.
Where
Remote review of the commerce app plus a findings session at our Klang rooms or by video. Site visits to a physical store or warehouse are optional when the catalog mirrors a floor set.
Rates
Quoted against catalog breadth, number of categories sampled, and whether a store-floor comparison is required. Malaysian engagements of this shape typically sit between RM 18,000 and RM 32,000. A written estimate follows the briefing.

Included

  • Kick-off briefing on catalog structure, campaign calendar, and known sore spots
  • Guided walkthroughs of browse paths on the live app (listing, filters, sort, search handoff)
  • Intent-signal map for the sampled categories: dwell on options, variant choice, wishlist, add-to-cart, exit back to grid
  • Written findings with annotated screens of the catalog as it stood during the study window
  • A 90-minute findings session (Klang office or video) with merchandising and catalog owners

Left out on purpose

  • Writing or shipping code for the commerce app
  • Ongoing weekly monitoring or a retained dashboard
  • Paid-media or performance-advertising analysis
  • Full SKU-file recataloguing or PIM cleanup

How the work proceeds

  1. Briefing

We sit with the catalog owner to mark categories in play, campaign dates, and any known dead zones in the grid.

  2. Catalog sample

We freeze a sample of listing pages, filters, and product-detail handoffs for the study window so mid-campaign edits do not silently rewrite the evidence.

  3. Browse-path review

We walk the sampled categories as a shopper would: from face-out, through sort and filter, into a product, and back.

  4. Intent mapping

We mark where purchase intent thickens (variant work, delivery promise, bundle) and where it thins (stock-outs in-grid, broken size charts, identical thumbnails).

  5. Findings session

We walk the pack with your merchandisers. Disagreement is expected; the session is for deciding what the catalog will actually change.

What we ask you to prepare

Share a staff login or a staging build of the commerce app, a current category tree, and a note on which campaigns will run during the study window. Nominate one merchandiser who can answer assortment questions within two working days.

Constraints we will not paper over

We cannot usefully study a catalog that is being rebuilt week by week. If listing templates change mid-study, the reading covers the window we actually saw and we will say so. We do not impersonate customers on live checkout beyond add-to-cart on a test account you provide.

Next step

Write to us with the commerce app name, a rough SKU count, and the categories you most want read. We reply within two working days.
